The collection contains photocopies of letters Elizabeth Thompson received from her sister, brother, friends A.P. Hopper and Jen How, cousin Julia Gregg, and husband John Hamilton. Her correspondents discuss visiting the town of Denmark [state unknown]; suggest arming African- Americans to fight for their own freedom during the Civil War; describe gardens on the campus of the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania (now Penn State), Pa. Farm School caps, planting corn on the college farm; household finances and debt; studying botany; charity and missionary work in China; and visiting friends and family. Also includes invitations to celebrate Fourth of July at the Farmers' High School in 1860, and to a poverty party at Samuel Glenn's in 1894, and a subscription list to raise $25,000 for the Farmers' High School.
